Open Sesame

And away we go!
This Saturday, from 10am-5pm, we’ll be holding an open house at the brand newly opened Black Box. Stop by, log a Tabata Squat score, and schmooze it up with your soon-to-be workout buddies.
Then, starting Monday, classes will be up and running. Come on down.
We’ve started moving in equipment, but are also eagerly awaiting shipments (bumper plates! rubber flooring! bumper plates!), getting plans for our giant pull-up contraction checked for structural integrity, and getting ready to paint (the black box right now being gleamingly white.)
Get some, go again.

    Niiiiiiice.
    Can’t wait till Sat.

  • Leslie

Is that Wittenstein in the picture?

  • http://www.self-aggrandizement.com josh

It is indeed. As he’s a pretty big dude, should give you a sense of the high ceilings and overall fairly large size of the space – for some reason, it looks much more cramped in this photo.

  • Leslie

He threw me for a loop…..I don’t think we’ve ever seen him in that much clothing before.

  • Justin

So, um, I am NOT doing Tabata paint!!! Cant wait until Saturday!!!

  • Yoon

    Space looks good!
Btw, about what time will everyone else be showing up? I’ll probably stop by around noon. Looking forward to meeting the faces behind the names.
Keith, Josh: will there be liquor at the open house? :) )

  • http://www.dammit.com dammit

i’m so curious about how many people are going to get involved early on. this whole year i was sure i was the only person in new york doing crossfit. really looking forward to meeting my fellow cultists!

  • sarena

Cant make it Saturday but hope to be there for class Mon 7am!

  • Brett_nyc

Hey Dammit, probably like 500 people will show up on Sat. 1 head here. 12 noon sounds good to me.

  • juan g.

    noon is good.
    is it BYOB?
Congrats josh and keith, on getting the space and making blackbox happen.
(and any one else involved, of course)
Took ya long enough but well done!

  • Keith W.

Whoever gets the lowest tabata score buys the first round.
    …that’ll be me :(

Congratulations Black Box crew! We got the keys to our new place yesterday. Best of luck and if you ever get out to CA stop in for a WOD.

Thanks to everybody that showed up yesterday and to everybody that thought about showing up.
Those of you that know us and know crossfit share our vision of what this space will become. I know there were a few people there that probably were a little confused by a gym with no equipment, but that’s okay. Eventually they will start to see it unfold into a top-notch training facility.
We’ll just keep working to make the dream a reality for all of us. Please come by for the next two weeks and indulge in a lot of free workouts and watch the space grow.

  • http://www.crossfitsandiego.com Susan

    Hello NYC!
My name is Susan Robinson and I live in San Diego – I’ve been hoping you all would get your ‘box’ by the time I visit NYC (for the very first time in my life) in March!
Lisa Lugo and I, both of CFSD, are coming your way and we are super excited to train with you all at CFNYC. See you in March!

  • David Aguasca

    hooray!
we should have a christening ceremony, where the person with the highest C&J drops a bumper-loaded barbell from overhead.

  • Neal Thompson

Josh and Keith! Congratulations on the space. I am going to be coming down for a visit soon. Also, Alex Straus has finally linked up with me here in Boston. I believe he worked with you Keith in NYC.
    All the best.
    Neal

  • http://www.dammit.com dammit

so tomorrow’s a rest day for the HQ WOD…what do you guys have planned?

  • http://www.crossfitnyc.org Keith W.

This is great news! I can’t wait to have all these visitors. :) Neal, Susan, Lisa…Wow!
As for programming. I’m trying to keep things simple in the first few sessions: squats, lunges, DLs, pushups, etc. Eventually I’ll ratchet it up. I think Josh is planning much more painful stuff to light people up at the beginning. He’s been talking about burpees a lot. :)

  • sarena

When is Josh teaching? Gotta try those burpees–sounds better than push ups :)

  • Kevin

Hey Guys! Congrats for making Crossfit NY’s new space a reality! I plan on checking out the space soon. Just waiting for an injury to heal and I’ll be ready to come down. I trained with you guys once in the Park in September and had a blast. Look forward to seeing Keith, Josh and the rest of you guys very soon. All the best.
    Cheers
    Kevin

  • Justin

Cant wait today for a lunchtime workout…So glad I have today off so I can “suffer”!!

  • Brett_nyc

Sarena, you really don’t want to do burpees…never ever ever. Seriously, they are horrible

  • http://www.self-aggrandizement.com josh

I think by “horrible”, Brett means “excellent”.
And, for the record, the next two classes I’ll be teaching are 7pm tonight and Wednesday, should anyone care to see for themselves.

  • Brett_nyc

Maybe it’s fate that I have to come to the 7pm class tonight instead of 8 that I was originally planning on.

  • Justin

Well, a great first day at Crossfit NYC!!! Legs a little wobly but it feels great to be back. Anyways, looks like I have to check out Wed night to see if Newman can still bring the pain.

  • kim

Great first class! Keith had 9 people at 12:30. Great turnout for a first day. If this keeps up you’re going to need a bigger space! Keith kicked everyone’s butt – in a nice way of course. I’m really sore but feeling great. I’ll be back on Wednesday. Great fun!!!
    Best, Kim

  • sarena

yeah great keith! Always fun and meaningful eh? JOsh the burpees sounds awesome–been there done that already not scared of torture. the question is who pushes my buttons more newman or wittenstein! cant do evenings–i teach. better luck next time:)

  • Drew

Some time before, I needed to buy a car for my organization but I did not have enough money and couldn’t order anything. Thank God my friend proposed to try to take the business loans from banks. Hence, I acted so and was happy with my sba loan.
