Helen

Three rounds for time:
Run 400 meters [sub 2 minutes jump rope]
1 1/2 pood Kettlebell X 21 swings (or 55 pound dumbbell swing)
12 Pull-ups
With the weather warming, at least some of us idiots ran around the block rather than subbing indoors. Consider doing the same.

Quick apology to all the outdoor runners – apparently, the loop around our block is about 800m, rather than 400m. No wonder that seemed long, especially with the up and down stair climb.

  • Kevin

I give props to you guys doing the run outdoors. That was a “Big fat Helen”.It seemed long and running up and down 4 flights didnt really appeal to me with swings and pullups looming on. I wussed out and did the 2 minute jump rope subs.
Time 10:36 1 1/2 pood bell. Everything unbroken except last round of pullups was 4,4,3,and the dreaded 1. I am definitely curious to try the run to see if my time would have improved or not. Damn, 400m is alot! Its pretty much running the length of a soccer or football field 4 times!!

8:58, as rx’d, down here in the EV. now i gotta go to seattle and get my “sub 10″ t-shirt!

  • Allison

as one of the so-called idiots, now I don’t feel so badly about my 24-minute finish. (16 kg kettlebell, pull-ups had a little bit of a jump to them, but mostly pulling up with my arms).

Used the treadmill at Mid City Gym: 14:20.
Here’s an article in which the author discusses his shock at meeting Helen as his first CrossFit WOD:

    Thanks Hari–I love the link!

  • Kevin

Great time on Helen, dammit. You must have been flying on those 400m runs.

  • http://www.dammit.com dammit

did you see the top scores on the boards? OPT got a 7:46. sick!

  • Kevin

OPT’s a freak. Harryhogg also got 7:48. Just ridiculous!!

  • http://www.dammit.com dammit

apparently the record is greg amundson’s 7:35.

  • Kevin

Thats insane. I got alot of work ahead of me.
I just found this program called Sanoodi that measures distance for runners using google maps. If we run halfway between 6th and 5th Ave along 38 or 39 streets and back to Crossfit thats a 1/4 mile.

  • michelle

  • http://www.dammit.com dammit

i assume the black box is doing cindy today, but if for variety’s sake somebody wanted to do mary, would that be ok?

  • http://www.crossfitnyc.org Keith W.

Most certainly. That would be fine. Bring it on.

  • Kevin

    First time with Cindy
    19 rounds in 19:55
Should’ve tried for pullups with the remaining time.

Check out the mothership video for today (April 16). Recognize anyone sitting against a white pole learning how to improve his stroke rating?

  • Brett_nyc

I liked how his head bobbed back and forth while watching the wheel… :)

  • Ewen

    Cindy 15 rounds
    Push-ups still the main weakness.

  • http://www.self-aggrandizement.com josh

Brett, I think it’s the yoga. His neck is extra limber.
I’m looking for a distance wheel so we can measure out the 400m halfway point. Still just happy to discover why I had inexplicably doubled my Helen time.
