CFE Saturday morning at the McCarren Park track. 10 am by the pull up bars. Rain location B3.
Also, heads up: Thursday rest day in BK I’m going to run a kipping clinic, particular emphasis paid to pull ups, ring dips, and muscle ups. If you’re having trouble with any of these things, come on by!

  • Davi

This WOD is completely un-doable for me and my ankle. :(

In other news, you should all go to SPA CASTLE in Queens. I spent four joyous hours there yesterday. in fact, I think we should consider having a rest day dinner there one day.

Congrads Jim! You must be so proud to count your alma mater #1 party school in America!

  • Levi

My alma mater, University of Florida, scored #2! GO GATORS!

Dan – that article brings a tear to my eye. I am just oh so proud of my alma mater. WE ARE… PENN STATE!

CFe tonight 630p central park columbus circle
    tomorrow 645a black box.

  • Josh Rosenfield

I’m pretty sure my school, Georgia Tech, is somewhere around dead last on that list.
I know this has been asked 100 times, but CFE people, what do you do with your stuff while running? I think it’s time to learn how to run finally.
Who’s up for a pig roast tonight?

  • torch

I pose that William and Mary might be worse than Georgia Tech. In a joke-sheet detailing the morning rituals of Virginia College Students, W&M was described as: wake up early, shower, study until class…

  • Jai

I don’t want to promise anything until I’ve contacted my friend, but I know someone who lives across the street from Van Cortlandt park (as in, his building faces the park itself). If he’s interested in participating in the drills, we could leave our stuff at his place.
I also don’t know how these things usually work, though, so maybe that’s not necessary? Is this the sort of thing a friend could drop in on, anyway?

Everyone hold their collective horses on this nonsense “my school is lame/boring” whining.
I attended the school that is actually, and has been actually, on the DEAD LAST SPOT on that list for years.
There is no doubt in my mind that the University of Chicago (when I graduated) was the worst school by a long shot.
Let me explain a few things. During the tenure of Robert Maynard Hutchins (1929-1945), the University of Chicago pulled out of the Big Ten (we had numerous Big Ten Championships in football, and an undefeated record against Notre dame), eliminated the varsity football program as well as most other athletics, tried to eliminate fraternities, and railed against “vocational” schools such as engineering or business. He drove most of what is today, still, one of the most difficult academic programs in which to succeed. The university with the second most Nobel Laureates to its credit in the world also had a near 20% dropout/transfer rate amongst entering first year students.
Cited as reasons for the poor social scene were, minimal athletics, unattractive women, cold weather, rigorous academics, dangerous neighborhood, and lack of any material social activities promoted by the University Administration.
We tore down a 100,000+ seat football stadium to build a library, under which they also split the first atom. On my first day of orientation, I was confronted by a bunch of guys in chain mail who were part of the “D&D Club” and some dipwads from Phi Psi who wanted me to come to a rush event entitled “Star Trek: The Next Generation Drinking Game”.
Now things have gotten better, but if we’re applying the standard of “Athlete to Era” then when I attended college there, it may have been the most socially inept and awful place. There’s a reason it was once called “the place fun goes to die.”
Not to rant, but seriously, you folks had it easy.

  • Zach Singer

    Adam M,
I actually almost posted about U Chicago, as I have known a few people to go there as well, but I felt it best saved for someone who actually experienced the horror first-hand. I applied and was accepted there, but after visiting I quickly realized that it was not for me. I’ve visited there more recently, and heard stories of the football stadium being torn down for the library. The D&D thing is absolutely fantastic though — that is just the icing on the cake.
And another little motto for U Chicago that is often touted by it’s own student body is that it is a place “where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA.”
So yeah, I agree, most of us had it pretty good in comparison.

    re: party schools…
A few years ago I took a several week long class at the Copenhagen Business School.
This is what they turn their main school building into for the weekly thursday night happy hours.

To weigh in on the party school spectrum, as an alum of the school that has never quite fit in the Big Ten, I also concur that the only thing that made me feel better about the dismal party scene at Northwestern was knowing that it was worse at University of Chicago.
And luckily, I had plenty of friends that went to Penn State.

  • Thor

Still love it that 3 of the top 4 are in the SEC and I like to think that I helped Gainesville on rep alone while I was there many moons ago.

we usually bring our stuff w/ us and put near by on a bench and do our WOD near it. a few people bring cars and store others stuff there as well.

  • Bari

My alma mater may not have made the Princeton Review Party Schools ranking’s top 20, but according to Playboy, the University of Miami takes the number one spot… such a proud moment for us canes! http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSTRE53G4TN20090417

Re: party schools. Try attending manhattan school of music. I was an RA and only broke up maybe 2 parties in 2 years… Most of the time I spent Saturday evenings telling people they could no longer practice in their rooms because it was quiet hours. People would sleep in practice rooms because they didn’t want to lose them. None of you can even begin to complain about the lack of fun at your schools!

  • Matt K

    As Rx’d 8 rounds + 8 C&J
I did not realize the 6am class was going to be suspended Aug 3 until tonight. Is there any consideration to a 6:30am class? I remember hearing some 7am people mention that would work for them.

  • Jessica A.

    Adam,
Both my parents went to University of Chicago for graduate school. When I wanted to apply there for undergrad, they wouldn’t even let me send in the application.
