Military Families in Need of our Help

My name is David Blair, fellow crossfitter at CrossFit NYC. Those of you over the past few months that have taken the 6:15PM beginner class or more recently the 5:45/6:45PM intermediate classes have likely seen me around. Like many of you, I am currently training for the Civilian Military Combine (“CMC”) Urban Assault in Brooklyn on September 22, 2012. It is an amazing event that also allows us to support one of our own Sean Rogers, co-founder of CMC. One of the goals of CMC is to help support charities, specifically military charities like the Tri-State Chapter of Operation Homefront.

Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors. Emergency assistance includes, but is not limited to, things like food, rent, utility bills or simple car repairs – the necessities that many of us take for granted. I have been on the board of OH-Tri-State for over two years and my passion to help our military service members and their families has grown exponentially. The sacrifices they make for our country may never be able to be repaid and as the soldiers come home the need is only going to grow. I think all of you would agree that anyone who is in the military or part of a military family is part of OUR community, whether crossfitter or not. Well…members of our community are in need of our help.

For those of you competing in the CMC who would like to raise money for Operation Homefront, please email me at David_Blair6 AT hotmail DOT com and I will set you up with a website to start fundraising. If you are not interested in fundraising on your own but would like to contribute, also included is a link to my fundraising page . Additionally, you can visit the Operation Homefront Tri-State website for more information. If anyone has any questions or would like to learn more about Operation Homefront, please feel free to contact me at the e-mail above. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any and all support you can provide.

Here’s what’s on tap for Wednesday’s Black Box WODs (check schedule for times & location)
A: Push press 3×3 @ 75%

B: Tug of War Competition

  • james_vergara

Very curious about tug o’war…co-Ed teams? men vs women? Mud pit? I didn’t even realize we had a rope!

    • Andy Graves

4:45 tomorrow Andy will call out Mr Vergara for a little one on one-if he shows…

      • james_vergara

The guantlet has been thrown down…

        • Andy Graves

excellent. The winner gets to challenge Sully!!!

          • james_vergara

I love it when a plan comes together…

Couple questions: very curious (1) why we are finding our 1RM prior to doing skill work on snatch (would think it would be flipped) (2) high reps of snatching and heavy shoulder work after doing a 1RM of snatch. I like that we have been doing the more dynamic oly lifts recently (C&J, snatch) but just not really following the logic here… Thanks

    • reisbaron

Mikko Salo and Dan Bailey talk about this concept on the CF Journal. While I forget which specific episode has Mikko discussing heavy lifts followed by lighter reps of the same in metcons, you can start here (very worthwhile series regardless): http://bit.ly/PDjce3

        Episode 5

  • Albert Insogna

A: Is it just me or are these RGWUs getting significantly harder? Today: HSPUs, pistols, frog-stands, skin-the-cats, and the new addition, GHR prep-work! Sweating bullets before we even started the wod. The good news is that I can now do a full ROM pistol- the bad news is that I can only do it with my right leg.
B: 3 rds + 30-ish DUs, 65# for round 1 and then just the bar.

  • Albert Insogna

Are the subway series results posted anywhere?

  • Aaron Segal

    3 rounds + 4 balances @ 75#

  • james_vergara

Sub 2x push press for snatch balance because of shoulder. 95#. 4 rounds plus 20 double unders. Tough one…

  • Andy Graves

A: RGWU-made to do things with a black band that involved another man that I really hope wasn’t photographed.
    B: 4rds+7PHS (100 singles & 75#) overall a good snatch practice workout.
Sully “hey dude, heard yo momma’s so fat that when she hauls ass she has to make two trips”
